ESRC Centres in Phase II of the Big Data Network officially open
15th October 2014
On 15th October the ESRC Business and Local Government Data Research Centre officially opened along with the other two centres in the ESRC Big Data Network.
The Centre forms a key part of phase II of the Economic and Social Research Council Big Data Network offering smart data insights into local government and local businesses. We will make data, routinely collected by business and local government organisations, accessible for academics, business and local government in order to undertake interdisciplinary research of mutual benefit to data owners and in ways that safeguard individuals’ identities.
The three Centres in the Big Data Network Phase II are:
• Business and Local Government Data Research Centre, Director: Professor Vania Sena at University of Essex
• Urban Big Data Centre, Director: Professor Piyushimita (Vonu) Thakuriah at Glasgow University
• Consumer Data Research Centre, Directors: Professor Mark Birkin at University of Leeds and Professor Paul Longley at University College London
The ESRC funded UK Data Service at the University of Essex directed by Professor Matthew Woollard will provide support for, and facilitate coordination across these Centres.
Phase I of the Big Data Network was the development of the Administrative Data Research Network (ADRN).
